Tactical Sacrifices
Learn when a sacrifice is sound and when it is only hope chess.
What Makes a Sacrifice Correct?
A sacrifice gives up material for something concrete: checkmate, winning material, a lasting attack, time, or a positional bind. It must be calculated, not guessed.
Practical Checklist
- Is the enemy king exposed?
- Do you have enough attackers near the king?
- Can the opponent return material and neutralize the attack?
- Do you have a clear follow-up after the sacrifice?
